Former Citroen garage on Rue 82
Wednesday April 16, 2008Here’s something for the lovers of quirky French cars (Bert S): some photos of a former Citroen garage on Rue 82.
Phnom Penh used to have large Peugeot and Citroen garages; after all, it was a French protectorate.
Rue 82
The first Citroen sign
The sign in the middle says “tnaq bampiñ vichia qakarakam”; this roughly translates to “non-formal education class”.
The second Citroen sign
Nowadays French cars are rare on the streets of Phnom Penh.
I know of at least one Traction Avant and one Simca. There’s a Renault 19 with a Corolla front clip, and there are a few Citroens too. Most common of the French cars, but still rare, are the large Peugeots driven by government employees, and the 504 pickup trucks used by Alain Delon cigarettes for deliveries and promotion.
Now Toyota and Lexus rule the streets of Phnom Penh.
