The weather has been a bit unusual the last few days. Rain, and lots of it. It’s dry season. It happens.
It makes for nice walking weather, though. If you like getting soaked. I don’t mind. It’s not cold anyway.

This is all that’s left of the old Royal residence in Senmonorom: a single bit of wall, and foundations. The location, on top of a hill, with a marvelous view, and near the Senmonorom Waterfall (called Samnak Sdac Waterfall in Khmer, meaning “King’s residence”) is worthy of a king.

Could this be a photo shop? Check out the outlines of the guy’s shirt. Also, judging by the incredible amount of garbage flying around town, I don’t think the message is getting across: រួមគ្នាសំអាតទីក្រុង means “Together we keep our city clean.”

Cambodia(n People’s Party)’s triumvirate: Chea Sim (President of the Senate), Hun Sen (Prime Minister), and Heng Samrin (Chairman of the National Assembly of Cambodia). These billboards are all over the country.

Fantastic, I thought, not a single English language mistake in this rather long sign. And then I noticed that the Khmer version of Mondulkiri is spelled wrong.

It should be គិរី, not គីរី. Then again, it’s such a common mistake that it could be said that both have become acceptable. Cambodians don’t seem to pay much attention to spelling. Like this one:

I hope they are not lerning English spelling.

Another thing off my to-do list

I finally repainted the kitchen roof with bituminous paint. And unlike the builders six months ago, I followed the instructions (written in Thai, Vietnamese, and English). First I removed loose bits of paint and concrete with a steel wire brush. Then I vacuumed the roof. Finally, I applied three coats of Shell FlintKote No. 3: the first coat 1:1 diluted with water, then two coats of undiluted product. Let’s hope it’s waterproof now.
